10 Annual Confederation Cup
High School Hockey Tournament
The Confederation Cup High School Hockey Tournament
In February 2008 the 10th Annual Confederation Cup High School Hockey Tournament will take place in St. John’s. The Tournament provides a unique opportunity for corporate partners to become involved in an event that has grown to become a major feature in High School Athletics.
The Confederation Cup High School Hockey Tournament started in 1999 with twenty-eight teams participating. In 2003 a record number fifty-six teams participated in the Tournament. In 2004 the Organizing Committee capped the number of teams participating at forty-eight. In 2007, forty-eight teams participated which included 32 Male teams and 16 Female teams. A total of 104 games of exciting hockey were played over the four-day tournament.
Attendance by out-of-province teams has grown since the Tournament started in 1999. This is the largest High School Hockey Tournament in Eastern Canada. Our excellent reputation for providing an enjoyable and rewarding experience for players, team and school officials and parents is evidenced by the number of returning teams and new applicants that we have each year.

The Confederation Cup Organizing Committee is fully responsible for all aspects of the Tournament including finance, operation, corporate relations and marketing. All members of the Committee and those involved with the running of this tournament are volunteers, many of who have been with the tournament since its inception in 1999.
The Tournament is a major winter event for the entire Avalon Region. Players, coaches, school officials and parents no longer billet at these types of events and as a result all visitors require meals, accommodation and transportation. In addition to these accommodations and meals for the visitors, there are expenses directly related to the operation of the Tournament such as ice rental, transportation, on and off-ice officials, souvenirs and the like. The whole region benefits economically.
The Confederation Cup High School Hockey Tournament is fully sanctioned by “Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador” and the “Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation”.
