Massage Therapy
Duration: 6 semesters
Program Description
The Massage Therapy program, as developed by Centennial College in Ontario, will prepare graduates to work in one of the fastest growing health professions in Canada. This field has been growing rapidly as a result of a healthcare system that promotes individual well-being. In addition, there is an increasing trend for practitioners to see massage therapy as an important rehabilitation tool for clients. This training would take place over 6 semesters with considerable hands-on practice under faculty supervision.

Employment Opportunities
Upon successful completion of the Massage Therapy program, graduates may choose to practice in a variety of settings. Many will become self employed, while others may work in massage clinics, chiropractors or doctors' offices, spas, health clubs, nursing homes, hospitals, etc. This profession can be highly flexible affording individuals the opportunity to choose work schedules that best suits their needs.
Entrance Requirements
High School Graduates or Equivalent
High School graduates or equivalent are eligible for admission to the Massage Therapy program. Students must complete an application form and provide a copy of High School, Adult Basic Education, or GED results. Massage Therapy applicants should have successfully completed 3rd level Academic English and 3rd level Academic Science in high school, or the equivalent courses through Adult Basic Education. Students who have not successfully completed the necessary English and/or Science courses in High School, Adult Basic Education, or have a General Education Diploma (GED), must successfully complete a Canadian Adult Achievement Test (arranged by Academy Canada), as well as complete Academy Canada's non-credit Academic English course and/or 3rd level Biology through Academy Canada's Adult Basic Education program in their first semester of study in the Massage Therapy program. Under certain circumstances, students who do not meet the formal High School requirements may be accepted upon the recommendation of a High School Principal, Guidance Counselor, or Massage Therapy Instructor. Mature Students
Mature students are eligible for admission to the Massage Therapy program. These students must be 19 years of age or older, complete an application form, provide a copy of most recent marks, and write a Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT) as arranged by Academy Canada. All students who complete the CAAT for admission must complete Academy Canada's non-credit Academic English course and 3rd level Biology through Academy Canada's Adult Basic Education program in their first semester of study in the Massage Therapy program.
Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree
Applicants with a post-secondary Diploma and/or University Degree (area of study will be considered) may be eligible for admission to the Massage Therapy program. Applicants must complete an application form and provide an up-to-date transcript of all courses completed at the post-secondary institution for which their Diploma/Degree was achieved.
Specific Entrance Requirements
Students must submit an up-to-date immunization record (which includes tetanus) obtained from the Public Health Department in their area. In addition, students must agree to have the series of Hepatitis B and Varicella immunizations completed before the end of the program if immunizations are not already recorded on their immunization record.
