In teaching applications, Academy Canada is using the most current version of applications software. Academy Canada will be teaching Microsoft Office. Academy Canada’s St. John’s, Kenmount Road campus is currently connected to the Internet by way of a 10 Mbps fibre optic cable. As a result, all Windows networked computers on campus have Internet access 24 hours a day at incredible speeds. Aliant provides our other campuses with the best technology available in their communities and will upgrade as the technology becomes available within those communities. In all relevant programs, Academy Canada will be teaching Windows Server and Windows as part of the Computer Support Specialist program. Group TelecomAcademy Canada is partnering with Group Telecom to bring to its campuses and to its students the best in Internet capabilities. Carpenters Millwrights College and Academy CanadaAcademy Canada and the Carpenters Millwrights College are pleased to have entered a training partnership agreement that will ensure that quality training for the carpenter occupation is available on a provincial level. Through cooperation, both colleges are able to coordinate training in two primary geographic areas of the province - East and West. Training is available at all levels; entry, advanced, direct entry and skills enhancement. Canadian Education and Training Accreditation Commission CETAC (Formerly known as the National Accreditation Commission)We are particularly proud of this affiliation. Academy Canada is one of the very few career colleges, both nationally and provincially, that has successfully met the rigorous requirements of the CETAC. The fact that Academy Canada's students will have graduated from a nationally accredited career college gives their certificate or diploma a validation assuring students that the programs we offer are of the highest calibre in curriculum as well as in instructional staff and resources. Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance of Technical IndustriesAcademy Canada’s affiliation with and membership in NATI assures us that we are constantly aware of industry trends and industry requirements. NATI keeps us informed of positions available within the industry and projects future needs. International Association of Administrative AssistantsFormally known as Professional Secretaries International - This is the world's first and foremost association of secretaries and office professionals with more than 40,000 members and affiliates around the world. Academy Canada's curriculum for Office Administration programs has been developed under the supervision of a CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) the professional designation awarded by the IAAA. Membership in this Association offers Academy Canada, and in turn its students, a wealth of information relevant to office positions through research, publications, educational standards, and networks globally. CITC Canadian Educational Standards DivisionAcademy Canada is very proud that its Travel, Tourism and Hospitality program has received industry endorsement, CITC Endorsed LEVEL II. Students will write the entry level examination within their program duration. This industry standard examination is completely separate from the course examinations required for the Diploma of Applied Arts from Academy Canada. Graduates from the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality program (CITC Endorsed LEVEL II) are entering the world’s largest industry, tourism. In Canada, the retail travel sector alone employs an estimated 25,000 people. Enrolling in the CITC program will give students a definite edge and industry recognition for employment in the highly competitive and growing tourism service sector. Newfoundland and Labrador Construction AssociationAs a trainer of our future construction labour market, Academy Canada has become a proud member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association (NLCA). The NLCA is an incorporated non-profit association of contractors, builders, and suppliers primarily engaged in the construction industry throughout the province. We look forward to working with this association to meet the needs of their future employees, our students. Hospitality Newfoundland and LabradorAcademy Canada’s membership in this association provides current information on professional workshops, seminars, and issues in the tourism industry. Industry occupational standards that represent the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to perform in the tourism industry on a national level are contained in the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality program. Students also complete the Super Host Atlantic seminar, a seminar developed by Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador designed to provide internationally competitive standards of service to visitors travelling to and within our province. Business ExcellenceThrough an ever-changing market, Academy Canada has managed to stay on the cutting edge of business and education while maintaining a strong support for our community. It is for these reasons that Academy Canada is the recipient of the Mount Pearl Chamber of Commerce 2000 Premier Award. Academy Canada prides itself on supporting community events through volunteer and time. Through commitment, support, and dedication with our many associations and committees, Academy Canada has become a community leader. Douglas CollegeA strong supporter of Academy Canada’s Therapeutic Recreation (Disability Support and Geriatric Professional) program - Academy Canada, in conjunction with Douglas College, is currently offering a two year Therapeutic Recreation program. Douglas College, based out of New Westminster, BC, has been a strong supporter of this program since its introduction to Academy Canada. Their continued guidance has enabled our college to offer a program that reflects the changing needs of today’s clients. Academy Canada’s Therapeutic Recreation students are also members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association (NLTRA). The NLTRA recognizes and supports the educational efforts of Academy Canada for the diploma level Therapeutic Recreation (Disability Support and Geriatric Professional) program. The association recognizes the professional interest of therapeutic practitioners. Academy Canada is an Authorized Provider of Canadian Red Cross First Aid TrainingUtilizing our own resources, Academy Canada provides a continuum of First Aid Training to a variety of groups including oil companies, RCMP, homecare and daycare operations, nurses, nursing students, volunteer firefighters, fisherpersons, ambulance operators, and the general public in the St. John’s region. Programs include CPR and Basic Cardiac Life Support, Emergency and Standard First Aid Training, Marine Advanced First Aid Training, and ChildSafe courses. St. Lawrence CollegeIn 2002, Academy Canada and St. Lawrence College (Ontario’s largest Public Post Secondary College with more than 20,000 full and part-time students) signed a cooperative agreement, which recognizes each other’s high standard of education. This agreement highlights and accepts each College’s Accreditation (both national and provincial), instructors, and curriculums. Through this agreement, students from Academy Canada may choose to continue their education beyond the Academy Canada Diploma level by studying at St. Lawrence College in Ontario. The agreement permits direct transfer of some credits from Academy Canada. Northern CollegeA strong supporter of Academy Canada's Animal Grooming program - Academy Canada, in conjunction with Northern College, is currently offering an Animal Grooming program. Northern College, based out of Haileybury, Ontario, has been a strong supporter of this program since its introduction to offer a program that reflects the changing needs of today's clients. Northern College recognizes and supports the educational efforts of Academy Canada for the Diploma Level Animal Grooming program. Centennial CollegeA strong supporter of Academy Canada's Massage Therapy program. Academy Canada is offering a Massage Therapy program developed by Centennial College in Ontario. Centennial College recognizes and supports the educational efforts of Academy Canada for the diploma level Massage Therapy program. Association of Early Childhood Educators of Newfoundland and LabradorThrough our relationship with the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Newfoundland and Labrador, our students and instructors of the Early Childhood Education and School Age Care program have utilized the association for support and resources.
