High School Hockey Invitational Tournament

February 9 - 12, 2012

Background

In February 2012, the 14th Annual High School Confederation Cup will take place in the metro St. John's area. The tournament provides a unique opportunity for corporate partners to become involved in an event grown to become a major feature in High School Athletics.

The Confederation Cup High School Hockey Tournament started in 1999 with 28 teams participating. In 2003, a record 56 teams participated in this event. In 2004, the Organizing Committee capped the number of participating teams to 48, consisting of 32 male teams and 16 female teams. Up to 104 games are played over this exciting four day event.

Out of province teams from across Atlantic Canada, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island has grown since the tournament started in 1999, making the Confederation Cup one of Atlantic Canada's largest Hockey Tournaments. Our excellent reputation for providing an enjoyable and rewarding experience for players, team and school officials and parents is evidenced by the number of returning teams and new applicants that we have each year.

All Committee members are involved with running the tournament are volunteers. In fact, most volunteers have been involved with the tournament since its inception in 1999.

The Tournament is a major winter event for the entire Avalon Region. Players, coaches, school officials and parents no longer billet at these types of events and as a result all visitors require meals, accommodation and transportation. In addition to these accommodations and meals for the visitors, expenses are directly related to the operation of the Tournament such as ice rental, transportation, on and off-ice officials, souvenirs and the like. The whole region benefits economically.

The Confederation Cup High School Hockey Invitational Tournament is a “Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador” and “Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation” sanctioned event.
