Frequently Asked QuestionsApply Online, International Apply Online, and Scholarship Online QuestionsWhen I try to submit an Apply Online, International Apply Online, and Scholarship Online application form multiple times, why do I get an "Invalid Submission - Possible Spam Bot" error? In an effort to prevent spamming and spam bot attacks, all Academy Canada essential webforms such as Apply Online, International Apply Online, and Scholarship Online are equipped with automated spam bot detectors. If a person submits an application form at least three times from one particular location over a short time period, including application resubmissions due to errors or missing mandatory fields, the webform will suspect a possible spam bot attack resulting in your application form not being processed or submitted. Without spam bot detectors being implemented, Academy Canada could receive hundreds, perhaps thousands, of application forms containing gibberish data, potentially resulting in limited database resources wasted, reduced website bandwidth, erroneous statistical data, and a much slower website. Always make sure you fill out all mandatory and optional fields, and provide information in correct formats on your Apply Online, International Apply Online, or Scholarship Online application form before submitting it. If you made an error on your Apply Online, International Apply Online, or Scholarship Online forms, and need to resend the information without getting an "Invalid Submission - Possible Spam Bot" message, wait at least 20 minutes to resend your form, or send an e-mail to info@academycanada.com to explain your error. If you have any questions about the "Invalid Submission - Possible Spam Bot" error, please e-mail the Webmaster, Jack Barrett, at jackiebarrett@academycanada.com. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 users are advised not to use compatibility view. How do I book an appointment for Client Day related services? If I find any problems with Degree Path related pages, do I report it to the Webmaster? The Business Development Manager is responsible for the Degree Path related pages content, not the Webmaster. In other words, the Webmaster must update or enter Degree Path related information on the Academy Canada website under the Business Development Manager's request, including layout, grammar, hyperlinks, promotional information, etc. If you find any errors on the Degree Path related pages, please report them to the Business Development Manager, Jackie White, at jwhite@academycanada.com. When is the Weather Alert page updated? Weather Alert page is updated Monday to Friday at between 7:45 AM and 8:00 AM Newfoundland Time with occassional updates throughout the day when new weather related information is available. If severe winter weather is expected on Monday or after a holiday period, Weather Alert is updated periodically on Sunday or before the first school day after a holiday when new information is available. Campus specific weather alerts will not be updated during municipal holidays such as Winter Carnival Day in Corner Brook and Regatta Day in St. John's. Weather Alert will not be updated college wide during Easter Break, Christmas Break, Summer Break, and provincial and national statutory and non-statutory holidays. Why does the Weather Alert page contain both the status and notes? The "notes" column explains the reasons a campus or head office is closed including severe weather, power outages, weather related state of emergency, and other circumstances beyond Academy Canada's control. Because campuses or head office could be closed in the morning due to a storm, but could reopen in the afternoon, we need to inform our visitors when the Weather Alert page will be updated if necessary. If a campus or head office is open in Corner Brook and/or St. John's, but severe weather conditions are expected or currently occuring, we will remind people to travel carefully so they can allow extra time to travel to effected campuses or head office. If I find an error or inaccuracy on the Academy Canada website, who do I report it to? If you spot any factual, spelling, or grammatical errors, including form and coding errors, please report it to Jack Barrett, Academy Canada Webmaster, at jackiebarrett@academycanada.com. What happens to a news story item once its no longer listed as a "Top News Story"? Once the most recent news story is added to the "News and Events" Page, its link will be place on top of the "Top News Stories" list on the Academy Canada Website Home Page. In an event we have more than 10 news stories posted on the "News and Events" Page, the oldest news stories are removed from the "News and Events" Page and links to these stories are also removed in the "Top News Stories" list on the Home Page. News stories removed from the "News and Events" Page are placed in the "News Archive" sections "2009 News Archive Part One" or "2009 News Archive Part Two" page. Howcome some news stories contain the source's contact information? When campuses submit their news stories to be posted on the Academy Canada website, the Webmaster usually makes some edits and changes to ensure it meets grammatical and content standards. However, some submitted news stories have to be posted "as is", meaning no changes are allowed. If a story is posted "as is", Academy Canada will provide the source's name, organization, e-mail, and other relevant contact information at the end of the news story in case a visitor has any questions or concerns about the story's content or grammar issues. How do I view Academy Canada news story RSS feeds? Starting March 2009, news stories are posted on the Academy Canada Website's RSS feed page, enabling students, staff, and other website visitors to easily view current and past news stories. However, the RSS feeds don't contain stories posted on the website prior to March 2009, meaning visitors may have to visit the News Archive pages located in the "News and Events" section. To view any RSS feeds, visit the Academy Canada Website's RSS page at http://www.academycanada.com/index.php?option=com_rd_rss&id=2. Why is the News Archive now split into four separate pages? The previous "News Archive" page was getting too large as stories no longer listed as one of our "Top News Stories" are added to the archive complete with story related photos, resulting in longer loading periods as additional bandwidth is required. Therefore, to make the new archive pages easier to load and manageable to update, the "News Archive" was recently subdivided into three pages, "2009 News Archive Part One", "2009 News Archive Part Two", "2008 News Archive", and "2005 to 2007 News Archive". Why does the Academy Canada Website contain some information not linked to education such as H1N1 Influenza Preparation, travel advisories, and water advisories? Since an "ounce of prevention is worth a pound in cure", some educational institutions such as Saint Mary's University and Kings Edgehill School are known for taking proactive approaches to preventing the spread of infectious diseases such as H1N1 Influenza (Swine Influenza) or Norwalk Virus. For other non-educational related information, Academy Canada is always evolving to meet the information needs of our current and potential students from travel advisories reminding students to take alternate routes or allow extra time to providing employment based resources. What are some changes and new features to the Academy Canada website for 2010-2011 college year? The new innovations and changes for the Academy Canada website during the 2010-2011 college year include program specific labour market information sheets, and the online scholarship form. Labour market information sheets contains a course list, career specific requirements, possible career opportunities, career outlook and benefits, and other information relating to your chosen program. Throughout the 2010-2011 college year, Academy Canada will make an effort to ensure every program has a labour market information sheet so that prospective students can make an informed decision before choosing a particular program. Grade 12 or Level III now have another option to apply for Academy Canada scholarships, our Online Scholarship Form. Please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page regularly throughout the year to learn more about the Academy Canada Website's new features and changes. Why are the Upcoming Start Date page now subdivided into three campus specific upcoming start dates pages? Last year, the Academy Canada website had one large upcoming start dates page, making it difficult to obtain campus specific program start date information. Therefore, Academy Canada decided to have campus specific program start date pages where visitors can find out when their programs will start for their campus. As an added bonus, each program will now have both a start and end date. How often does Academy Canada backup their website?
