Employer Profile

GGD Electrical

Academy Canada is proud to partner with many quality employers across Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and worldwide. One of these companies we are excited to support is GGD Electrical of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland.

Guy Dredge founded the company in 1998, GGD employees eight full-time Electricians, seven of which are Academy Canada Graduates. The fact that their work is split almost evenly between commercial (60%) and residential (40%) work, means that employees get an opportunity to experience many different types of environments.

According to company Foreman Glen Taylor, an Academy Canada graduate, “this industry has seen tremendous growth in recent years and Academy Canada is successfully training the future workforce of this demanding profession”.

If you need high quality Electrical work, we encourage you to call Guy Dredge or Glen Taylor at (709) 364-7829 or reach them at their office at the following address:

OSCO Construction Group

Academy Canada was pleased to host the OSCO Construction Group at the Harding Road and Kenmount Road campuses as they conduct their Newfoundland and Labrador employee recruitment drive.

Based in Saint John, New Brunswick, OSCO Construction Group is a collection of concrete, steel, and construction based companies specializing in steel fabrication and precast concrete production, and perform specialty construction projects for commercial, industrial, retail, and public sectors. In business since 1955, they serve a variety of markets throughout Atlantic Canada, Eastern United States, and the Caribbean. Recognized as a leader in their field, OSCO Construction Group makes an outstanding Preferred Employer for Academy Canada and its students.

OSCO Construction Group hires a variety of individuals in highly professional and industrial trades fields including Information Technology, Skilled Industrial and Construction Trades, Computer Aided Drafting professionals, Business, and Office Administration. They are currently seeking Welders and Computer Draftspersons for ongoing projects.

During their recent visit, Ocean Steel Plant Manager Troy Hawkes and Recruiter Céline Yarnall presented specifically to Academy Canada's Computer Aided Drafting and Welding classes, met with campus Senior Administration, and interviewed over a dozen current students with a goal of recruiting them for employment immediately after graduation.

According to Ms. Yarnall, Academy Canada students make excellent candidates for their company. She was very pleased with their skill sets and their high professionalism level they presented themselves during their visit. Additional College credentials such as the Welding Program's Provincial Apprenticeship Board accreditation and the College's accreditation through the Canadian Education and Training Accreditation Commission, or CETAC, were also key selling points for Celine, as well as other national employers looking to hire Academy Canada graduates.
