Various forms of Financial Assistance are available
to students who attend Academy Canada.
Financial Aid, in the form of Student Loans, may be
available from the Provincial Student Aid Division for
those who qualify. Information about Student Loans is
available from the Business/Registrar's Office. Both
the Canada and Newfoundland Student Loans Programs are
administered by the Division of Student Aid, Department
of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education and are
similar in many respects. Both are needs based and are
intended to supplement the resources of students and
their families.
The Division of Student Aid, Department of Youth Services
and Post-Secondary Education are responsible for assessing
the financial needs of the Student Loan Applicant. If
you believe that you have been unfairly assessed regarding
your student loan application, you may appeal in writing
to:
Appeals Officer, Student Aid Division
Coughlan College
Box 8700
St. John's, NL A1B 4J6
Appeals Officer, Student Aid Division
College of the North Atlantic

If you plan to appeal the results of your student loan
application, you should do so as quickly as possible.
The deadline for appeals is 14 days after notice of
assessment or reassessement. If you have any questions
about the student loan process, feel free to contact
our Business Office for assistance.
Human Resources Development Staff (formerly the Canada
Employment Center) have several financial programs available
to assist students with training / retraining. If you
have received EI benefits or are currently receiving
or are entitled to EI benefits, you may be able to continue
these benefits while you attend our College. The decision
of sponsorship or continued benefits rests with Human
Resources Development Canada. Please check with your
HRDC counsellor for further information.
Funding may also be available to students through such
government departments and community agencies as the
Department of Human Resources and Employment, Mi'Kmaq
Resources and Development and Workers' Compensation.
Check with Academy Canada's Admission Representatives
for details.
