Microcomputer Applications
Duration: 3 semesters plus 4 week work term
Program Description
The Microcomputer Applications program is an extensive hands-on program which will give students comprehensive exposure to each of the major computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and beginner and intermediate desktop publishing. It will also develop the additional skills necessary to take them from novice computer users to competent users of operating systems and will provide the basis of computer fundamentals. The program will also address the basic skills necessary for student success, employability, and effective communication. Microcomputer Applications is appropriate both for those wishing to develop their applications skills specific to the employment opportunities they have already achieved and for those wishing to improve upon skills already possessed.

Employment Opportunities
Upon successful completion of the Microcomputer Applications program, which includes a work term, employment opportunities may exist (depending on specific hiring practices) in environments which demand comprehensive knowledge of word processing, desktop publishing, database management, or spreadsheets. Opportunities may also exist for entrepreneurial endeavors making use of the skills learned in this program.
Entrance Requirements
High School Graduates or Equivalent
High School Graduates or equivalent are eligible for admission to the Microcomputer Applications program. Students must complete an application form and provide a copy of High School, Adult Basic Education or G.E.D. results. Under certain circumstances students who do not meet the formal High School requirements may be accepted upon the recommendation of a High School Principal or Guidance Counsellor. Mature Students
Mature students are eligible for admission to the Microcomputer Applications program. These students must be at least 19 years of age, complete an application form, provide a copy of recent marks and write a Canadian Adult Achievement Test, arranged by Academy Canada.
