Duration: 6 semesters plus 4 week work term
Program Description
This computer-based office skills program prepares students to work specifically in medical, dental, legal, and engineering office environments. Students will have completed the Office Administration (General Studies) program and will specialize in the activities and procedures of medical, dental, legal, and engineering offices found in public and private sectors. The technical skills of terminology, bookkeeping, keyboarding, word processing, data processing, transcription, and other related computer skills are at an advanced level for positions requiring an administrative assistant competency level. Students study theory, practice general client and customer relations, as well as receive hands-on training in the following: Medical/Dental Office Procedures (including Dentrix and MCP Billing), Legal Office Procedures (including PCLaw), and Engineering Office Procedures. Students will have the opportunity to plan, supervise, and produce work in partnership arrangements with volunteer groups and organizations.

Upon successful completion of the Office Administration Technology (Medical, Dental, Legal, Engineering) program, which includes a work term, graduates may be eligible for employment (depending on specific hiring practices) within medical, dental, legal, and engineering office environments in the public and private sectors. Employment opportunities exist for graduates at various levels, from an office clerk to an administrative or executive assistant. The specialty components of medical, dental, legal, and engineering sectors provide graduates with a variety of office environments in which to work.
Entrance Requirements
High School Graduates or Equivalent
High School Graduates or equivalent are eligible for admission into the Office Administration Technology (Medical, Dental, Legal, Engineering) program. Students must complete an application form and provide a copy of High School, Adult Basic Education, or G.E.D. results. Under certain circumstances students who do not meet the formal High School requirements may be accepted upon the recommendation of a High School Principal or Guidance Counsellor. Mature Students
Mature students are eligible for admission to the Office Administration Technology (Medical, Dental, Legal, Engineering) program. These students must be at least 19 years of age, complete an application form, provide a copy of recent marks, and write a Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT) as arranged by Academy Canada.
