Natural ResourcesDiploma of TechnologyDuration: 6 semesters plus 8 week work term Program DescriptionThe two year Natural Resources Academy Canada diploma program will prepare students to work in the exciting fields of wildlife, forestry, fisheries, enforcement and environmental consulting. Besides the numerous courses related to animal behavior, silviculture, ecology and fish management, students will complete several professional development courses. They include canoeing, coastal navigation, firearms safety, first aid and oil spill response as well as a one-week field camp. At the end of the program, academic and practical training is supplemented with an 8 week work term. Program Courses
Employment OpportunitiesUpon successful completion of the Natural Resources program, graduates will be eligible for employment (depending on specific hiring practices) with natural resources agencies such as wildlife, forestry, fisheries, and environmental consulting firms. Entrance RequirementsHigh School Graduates or EquivalentNatural Resources applicants should have a High School Graduation Diploma with a pass in Level III Mathematics (Academic or Advanced) and four (4) Science credits, Adult Basic Education equivalent, or mature student status. Students who have not successfully completed Level III Mathematics (Advanced or Academic) must successfully complete Academy Canada’s non-credit Mathematics course in the first semester. Under certain circumstances, students who do not meet the formal High School requirements may be accepted upon the recommendation of a High School Principal or Guidance Counsellor. Please contact an Admissions Officer for further details. Mature StudentsMature students are eligible for admission to the Natural Resources program. These students must be 19 years of age or older, complete an application form, provide a copy of most recent marks, and write a Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT) as arranged by Academy Canada. Specific Entrance RequirementsStudents must submit two written letters of reference (no personal references) and a Certificate of Conduct from their local Police Department. Certificate of Conduct: Students must acquire a Certificate of Conduct for admission into this program. Students are solely accountable for any offences not uncovered by the investigation which may preclude the student from subsequent work terms or employment.
