Academy Canada offers a Diploma of Health and Human Sciences in Occupational Health and Safety in partnership with Don Sayers and Associates.

Don Sayers and Associates (DSA) are Occupational Health and Safety Professionals and Educators. Their educational materials are Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals recognized as meeting academic requirements for registration.

DSA are also in partnership with the University of Fredericton and Occupational Health and Safety, Canada. We are delighted to work closely with DSA in providing quality Occupational Health and Safety education.

Program Description

Academy Canada’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program responds to the growing demand for employees in the area of health and safety. Graduates will be able to: interpret OHS legislation, develop OHS/Loss-Control Programs, conduct audits and inspections of existing OHS and environmental programs, and design and deliver effective OHS training programs for workers.

The OHS Program meets the formal education requirements for certification with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP). There are other criteria graduates must meet to become eligible to register for BCRSP certification; your admissions officer can provide more information on this topic.

Employment Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the OHS Program, graduates are eligible to work in a variety of positions such as Occupational Health and Safety Officers, Safety Coordinators, Safety Inspectors, Compliance Officers, Safety Auditors, Safety Advisors, Safety Managers and Safety Consultants, depending on specific hiring practices. Entrance Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent

High School Graduates or equivalent are eligible for admission to the OHS program. Students must complete an application form and provide a copy of High School, Adult Basic Education, or G.E.D. results. Under certain circumstances, students who do not meet the formal High School requirements may be accepted upon recommendation from a High School Principal or Guidance Counsellor. Please contact an Admissions Officer for further details.

Mature Students

Mature students are eligible for admission to the OHS program. These students must be 19 years of age or older, complete an application form, provide a copy of most recent marks, and write a Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT) as arranged by Academy Canada.

Specific Requirements

Students must submit a Certificate of Conduct from their local Police Department.

Certificate of Conduct: Students must acquire a Certificate of Conduct for admission into this program. Students are solely accountable for any offences not uncovered by the investigation which may preclude the student from subsequent work terms or employment.

Please note: Academy Canada reserves the right to deny admission into this program based on an unpardoned criminal record that would bear relevance to the field-term requirements of the program.
