Academy Canada is one of the strongest and fastest growing Career Colleges in the Atlantic region. With 35 programs, 1,200 students, and a staff of 195, we are currently looking for talented individual to join our team. The Kenmount Road location has an immediate opening for a full time Student Support Coordinator.

"Student Support Coordinator" Overview

Provide “student success” programs for the student population at the campus level. The campus Student Support Coordinator is primarily responsible for monitoring student success and mitigating student attrition to ensure that all students have access to Academy Canada’s student services. This person will develop and administer programs that will provide opportunities for all students to adjust to post-secondary life, such as offering study skills workshops.

Work with “at-risk” students. The Student Support Coordinator will monitor student attendance and progression through their registered programs and identify those at risk of not completing their programs. The Student Support Coordinator will then work with at-risk students with the goal of identifying barriers to their success and finding possible solutions to overcome those barriers, which may include referrals to supports and programs in the community.

Work with students who have disclosed a disability. The Student Support Coordinator will work with students who have disclosed disabilities, including learning disabilities, and recommend appropriate accommodations for the post-secondary environment. They will coordinate the implementation of accommodations that require participation from staff members.

"Student Support Coordinator" Competencies

  • 2-3 years’ previous work experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet usage, digital file organization, and email.
  • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, listening).
  • Ability to maintain confidentially; be empathetic and open-minded.
  • Self-directed; high initiative level.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines
  • Strong team work ability.

"Student Support Coordinator" Requirements

This position requires the employee to complete post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree program in an applicable discipline, combined with experience working in a student-centred learning environment.

Small Equipment Service Technician Instructor - Competencies

The Instructor plays a vital role in the proper delivery of Academy Canada’s programs.

The position includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Program preparation and delivery, including the development and/or maintenance of course portfolios and proper maintenance of a teacher planner
  • Completion of all preparatory work exclusive of regular student contact hours
  • Maintain student records/files as per College policy
  • Conduct and record student evaluations, both academic and practical
  • Properly maintain current student attendance records and report concerns to the Records Coordinator
  • Monitor student progress and ensure that administration is made aware of any student concerns in a timely manner
  • Properly manage student grades
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times

Small Equipment Service Technician Instructor Requirements

The successful applicant must have six years education and work experience combined with a Red Seal Journeyperson Status for at least two years.

Applications are now being accepted for a Greenhouse Production Instructor at our Harding Road Campus in St. John’s to commence January 2024.

The successful applicant must have six years combined of horticulture/agriculture and/or greenhouse education and work experience. Please note educational training certificates must be provided.

Greenhouse Production Instructor Responsibilities:

  1. Program preparation and delivery, including the development and/or course portfolios maintenance and proper teacher planner maintenance.
  2. Work in our team to ensure students have a supportive learning environment.
  3. Complete preparatory work outside regular student contact hours.
  4. Lesson plan preparation.
  5. Maintain student records/files as per company policy.
  6. Conduct and record student evaluations, both academic and practical.
  7. Properly maintain current student attendance records
  8. Monitor student progress and ensure that campus administration is aware of any issues.
  9. Enter information and maintain information, grades, and attendance in our internal database.
  10. Properly manage student grades. This involves recording evaluation schemes and calculating all grades in the Teacher Planner, entering final grades into database.
  11. Attend scheduled staff meetings, faculty meetings, and instructor in-service training sessions.
  12. Maintain a professional demeanour at all times.
  13. Other Administration defined duties.

Greenhouse Production Instructor Competencies:
