  • Vet Assistant, Vet Receptionist or Technician – Vet assistants and technicians play a crucial role in veterinary clinics. These career paths will allow you to work closely with veterinarians and assist them in taking care of various animals. 
  • Pet Groomer – As a pet stylist or groomer, you will be able to work with animals while also expressing your creativity. This career path is ideal for those you have an eye for style and love animals. 
  • Animal Shelter Worker – This highly rewarding career will help you find forever homes for animals in need of shelter. If you are passionate about helping abandoned or lost animals, this may be the right career path for you.  

Discover Our Animal Care Programs 

Here at Academy Canada, we offer four main diploma programs in St. John’s catered to animal care and nature: 

  1. Animal Grooming Professional – This is a two-semester program that allows students to learn how to start their own cat and dog grooming business. In this program, you will learn to identify and manage different breeds of cats and dogs and you will be taught the different grooming requirements of each animal and breed. 
  2. Greenhouse ProductionThis program teaches students the necessary skills required in greenhouse production. The program last 66 weeks and covers all the essential components of greenhouse production, including plant environment, pest management, and labour management, among others. Once you’ve completed this program, you will be able to work in the cannabis, horticulture, and agricultural industries. 
  3. Natural ResourcesThis diploma program allows students to start fulfilling careers in the fields of wildlife, forestry, and fishery enforcement and conservation. This two-year program will help students gain a strong foundation in several areas, including biology, silviculture, and environmental studies. You will also be taught officer safety, self-defence, and firearms safety.
  4. Vet Assistant, Vet Receptionist or TechnicianWith this program, you will acquire the skills necessary to work in veterinary clinics and assist veterinarians take care of dogs, cats, and exotic animals alike. This one-year diploma program will also cover animal care topics such as feline and canine behavior, veterinary office practices, animal breeds, animal nursing and nutrition, and more. You will also acquire a wide range of computer and administrative skills.
