Academy Canada are please to partner with the National Payroll Institute (formerly known as the Canadian Payroll Association).

Course equivalency recognition for the Accounting and Organizational Behaviour courses. For any students who wish to pursue, through the CPA, a designation such as Payroll Compliance Practitioner or Certified Payroll Manager, these courses can automatically be transferred for credit and will be accepted by the CPA as equivalent to their Introduction to Accounting and Organizational Behaviour Management courses.

Academy Canada are pleased to have an Articulation Agreement with Cape Breton University (CBU).

Our Law Enforcement Students can qualify for Advanced Standing towards CBU’s Bachelor of Arts Community Studies (BACS) program. Graduates may be eligible to receive up to 45 credits towards a 90 credit BACS 3-year degree at Cape Breton University with a variety of minor/major options to choose from.

Academy Canada recently-established articulation agreement with University of Lethbridge, established in 2021, makes graduates of Academy Canada’s two-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation eligible to apply for admission into the Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation program at the University of Lethbridge.

If admitted, the students will be third-year level students at the University of Lethbridge in its Faculty of Health Sciences in all respects.

Since the summer of 2003, Gros Morne Summer Music has grown from a small classical music festival to a year-round celebration of performing arts on Newfoundland’s West Coast.

NL Association of Chefs and Cooks: The NL Association of Chefs and Cooks is an industry group that works to promote the cooking profession within the province by hosting a series of charitable events, competitions and showcases. Academy Canada staff are proud volunteers and supporters of the great work this group does.

VOCM cares: The VOCM Cares Foundation is a public foundation of Steele Communications. Our foundation is mandated to raise funds for charitable causes involving the health, education and safety of the community at large. The VOCM Cares Foundation helps to support charities in Newfoundland and Labrador through project funding and community services; and, from time to time, at the request and recommendation of recognized appropriate agencies, provides direct assistance to those in special circumstances. Academy Canada proudly supports the work of VOCM cares.

Qaipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band: Qalipu (Pronounced: ha-lee-boo, Meaning: Caribou) is a vibrant Mi’kmaq First Nation established in 2011 as an Indigenous Band under the Indian Act. With some 24,000 members spread across many communities both on the island and abroad, they are one of the largest First Nation groups in Canada. Core programs and services are delivered by a growing body of staff. Service offering includes education and training, tourism development, health benefits and services, employment programs, registration assistance, environmental monitoring, culture and heritage and community economic development. Qalipu also conducts a variety of special programs which vary from year to year. Academy Canada is proud to support the work of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nations Band and provide career training for many of their members.

INNU First Nation: The Innu Nation is the organization that formally represents the Innu of Labrador, approximately 2200 persons, most of whom live in the two Innu communities of Sheshatshiu and Natuashish. The Sheshatsiu Innu live in the community of Sheshatshiu while the Mushuau Innu live in the community of Natuashish. Some Innu also live in other communities within Labrador and on the Island part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Academy Canada is proud to deliver considerable training to Innu First Nation members both in community and from our campuses in St. John’s/Corner Brook.

Medix College of Healthcare: Medix is one of the largest and most respected colleges in Ontario. It has developed a reputation for offering high quality programs in the medical and personal care field. For over 40 years Medix College has been providing industry leading Health Care career training for those looking to become medical professionals. Currently, Medix College has six campuses across Ontario, including Brampton, Brantford, Kitchener, London, Scarborough and Toronto. Academy Canada is pleased to be partnering with Medix in the delivery of our Massage Therapy program.

MusicNL: The mandate of MusicNL is to address key issues affecting the Newfoundland & Labrador music industry. They work to implement positive change by presenting a strong voice to government, business and the community at large. They increase awareness locally, nationally and internationally of provincially produced music as an art form and as a viable industry with significant impact on the economy. Furthermore, they create and encourage opportunities which will stimulate growth of the industry. The membership is made up of musicians, composers, recording studios, distributors, managers, agents and other related music industry companies. Music NL recognizes Academy Canada’s Music and Recording Arts Program.

St. John’s Board of Trade: The St. John’s Board of Trade is a leading voice of business in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a solutions-based organization that: advocates on behalf of business to all levels of government, provides access to opportunities, and assists members on issues affecting business. Academy Canada is proud to be a Board of Trade member and have representatives sit on the Labour Market Development committee.

Police & Peace Officers’ Memorial Ribbon Society: The Police & Peace Officers’ Memorial Ribbon Society is dedicated to remembering all Police and Peace Officers in Canada who have died while serving their communities. When an Officer dies “in the line of duty”, protecting the peace and freedoms of this country, his or her death should be honoured nationally and not forgotten. The Society’s blue and black Memorial Ribbon has become recognized across Canada as the national symbol of mourning for Police and Peace Officers. The Society is working to establish the Ribbon as an international symbol of mourning for fallen heroes. Easter Seals: Easter Seals provides exceptional services, education, outreach, and advocacy so that people living with autism and other disabilities can live, learn, work and play in our communities. Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs (and their families) live better lives for more than 90 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life’s challenges and achieve personal goals. Academy Canada supports Easter Seals by promoting their programs and volunteering hundreds of hours per year towards their projects.

Young Adult Cancer Canada: YACC’s Mission is to support young adults as they move through and beyond cancer. To be the connection to peers, bridge out of isolation, and source of inspiration. Any cancer, any stage, YACC’s got your back. Academy Canada has helped spread the message of YACC throughout our community and volunteered to support their various projects.

Association for New Canadians: The Association for New Canadians is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to the provision of settlement and integration services for immigrants and refugees. For over 30 years, the Association has delivered programs and services to support all aspects of newcomer integration, ranging from settlement information and orientation, to language learning, skills development and employment. The International students who attend Academy Canada get amazing support from the ANC as they adapt to a new culture and environment. We are very grateful for the services provided.

Canadian Federation of Independent Business: The CFIB is a non-profit business organization representing the interests and concerns of over 109,000 Canadian owners of small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs) to all three levels of government. Issues of concern to the Canadian SME community are identified by CFIB members through surveys, opinion polls and face-to-face visits. Members’ views and opinions are then delivered to all three levels of government in the form of research reports, meetings and testimony. These concerns are far ranging but typically include tax policy, labor policies and the reduction of regulatory paper burden. CFIB describes itself as a non-partisan political advocacy organization working with all federal and provincial parties and reports that its sole source of funding is membership dues; it accepts no donations or government funds. The organization’s head office is located in Toronto and there is a regional office located in each province. In addition there is also a national office located in Ottawa. Academy Canada has been a member of the CFIB for many years. We support their efforts to encourage business excellence and the recognition of small-medium sized companies as the cornerstone of the Canadian economy.

Special Olympics: Academy Canada holds a special place in its heart for Special Olympics. This unique group has made it’s a mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics gives participants the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other athletes and the community. The college has supported the organization with financial donations and through volunteerism. We are particularly proud to have a Special Olympics multi-Gold Medalist (Jack Barrett) as our Webmaster.

Canadian Welding Bureau: The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) is a not-for-profit organization that offers certification and registration for companies involved in the welding of steel structures. Welders in Canada are required to be retested every two years by the Canadian Welding Bureau. Since 1947 CWB has evolved and expanded its original scope and is now accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as a Certification Body for the administration of CSA Standards. Academy Canada is an authorized testing center for CWB certification programs and has had many students/graduates CWB certified.

Futurpreneur Canada: Futurpreneur Canada has been fueling the entrepreneurial passions of Canada’s young enterprise for two decades. We are the only national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentoring and support tools to aspiring business owners aged 18-39. Our internationally recognized mentoring program hand matches young entrepreneurs with a business expert from a network of more than 3,000 volunteer mentors. School Sports Newfoundland & Labrador: Academy Canada is proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of School Sports Newfoundland & Labrador (formerly Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation). In 2015 we pledged $100,000 to help with the development of high school athletes and coaches. Included in the sponsorship is $90,000 cash and $10,000 in scholarships over a three year period. SSNL was created in 1969 to meet the need for a provincial organization to coordinate and administer interscholastic athletics in Newfoundland and Labrador. It was founded on the belief that “school athletics made an important contribution to the goals of education and as such were an integral part of the total educational process.” One of the key objectives of the Federation was to “encourage participation in inter-school athletics on the zone, regional and provincial levels through promotion and sponsorship of zone, regional and provincial athletic programs.”

Canadian Red Cross: Academy Canada is proud to be an authorized trainer for the delivery of Canadian Red Cross first aid and emergency training. The Canadian Red Cross Society is a Canadian humanitarian charitable organization and one of 189 national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. The mission of the Canadian Red Cross is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world. The Society is increasing their disaster volunteer services by training several volunteers in Personal Disaster Assistance, Emergency Response Team and Disaster Response Team capacities.

NL Student Financial Services: The Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador work together to provide student financial assistance. Both loans and grants are available to help students access and pay for post-secondary education. With one application students will be assessed for both federal and provincial student loans as well as most student grants. Approximately half of Academy Canada students take advantage of the Student Aid program to finance their training.

Stella’s Circle: Stella’s Circle is a very special organization. Their mission is to address the impact and root causes of poverty, abuse, and oppression. They do this by developing support services that promote community inclusion and by advocating for social policy changes that transform oppressive systems. Their Guiding Principles are based on the belief that Individuals, families, and communities are capable of growth and change, all individuals have contributions to make, and it is important to support outreach and active involvement in the community to promote the interest of all citizens, particularly those who are marginalized. The staff strive for social justice and a more equitable distribution of power and resources in the belief that when people have their needs met, with dignity and compassion, everyone in the community benefits. Academy Canada supports the work of Stella’s Circle and has partnered with them on several exciting projects.

Learning Disabilities Association of NL: The Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador incorporated as a not for profit in 2001 and acts as the provincial voice for individuals with learning disabilities. LDANL offers programs to build social competence and independence skills. Through awareness raising activities, workshops and social programs they hope to bring a new level of understanding regarding Learning Disabilities to the general public. It is the LDANL goal that individuals with learning disabilities be identified and fully accommodated at the earliest opportunity, enabling them to reach their full potential. Academy Canada supports the excellent work of the Learning Disabilities Association and partners with them to provide support services to students on an ongoing basis.

Labrador Aboriginal Training Partnership: The Labrador Aboriginal Training Partnership (LATP) is a partnership between Labrador’s three Aboriginal groups – Innu Nation, Nunatsiavut Government, Nunatukavut Community Council and Nalcor Energy-Lower Churchill Project. The mandate of the LATP is to oversee a comprehensive Training-to-Employment Plan that will prepare aboriginal individuals for employment opportunities created through resource development throughout Labrador. Academy Canada has delivered several successful programs for LATP in Labrador and continues to support the vision of community-based training wherever requested by band councils and leaders.

NL Massage Therapy Association: Founded in 1990, the NLMTA is a non-profit association of professional, practicing RMTs. They are dedicated to promoting high standards of massage therapy throughout the province. Academy Canada is proud to work with the NLMTA to ensure that our Massage Therapy program is of the highest possible standards.

Restaurant Association of NL: The Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (RANL) has been representing the interests of the Food Service Industry in NL for close to fifty years. Over the years, RANL has learned that the interests of the restaurant and food service industry in Newfoundland and Labrador are best served when owners and operators are directly involved in representing the issues that impact their day to day business. Academy Canada’s Chefs and students are big RANL supporters and have been involved in numerous fundraisers and competitions over the last 15 years.

Women In Resource Development: WRDC was established to foster an environment that increases the participation of women in NL trades and technology sectors. They are achieving this through the elimination of barriers that exclude or discourage women from seeking employment in these sectors. Academy Canada has had staff sit on several WRDC committees and have even partnered to design a “Women In Trades” magazine that focused entirely on the accomplishments of AC female tradespeople.

Office to Advance Women Apprentices: The Office to Advance Women Apprentices (OAWA) was funded by the provincial government of Newfoundland & Labrador during 2009 with a mandate of increasing employment opportunities for females in the skilled trades. Academy Canada is an active supporter of their work and strives to help them accomplish the goal of putting as many female apprentices to work as possible.

Chambers of Commerce: Academy Canada is a member of the Chambers of Commerce in Deer Lake, Placentia, St. Anthony, Baie Verte, Bonavista, Conception Bay Area, Labrador North. Staff members are active supporters of a wide range of business initiatives that are making the regional economies of the province as strong as possible.

Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools: Academy Canada is a member of the Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools. The CCMTS is a non-profit organization of massage therapy educators who have placed quality programming and accountability as the cornerstones of their training programs. As a national organization representing both public and private member programs, the CCMTS has a unique perspective and decided influence on the educational landscape that exists across the country. The CCMTS joins with the other pillars of the profession, provincial regulating bodies, professional associations, and graduates everywhere in the pursuit of excellence in the massage therapy profession. YMCA/YWCA: Academy Canada supports the important work done by the YM/YWCA, particularly as it relates to career development. We are thrilled to have been a Platinum sponsor for the YMCA Enterprise Olympics program that provides workbooks and study guides for high school students/teachers completing the Entrepreneurship 3209 course.

Yorkville University: Academy Canada is extremely pleased to have a signed Collaboration Agreement with Yorkville University. This agreement provides graduates of 17 different programs offered at Academy Canada with a block transfer of credits towards Yorkville University’s Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Yorkville’s BBA degree is recognized by the Certified General Accountants (CGA) of Ontario, and also has approved credit transfer of certain courses towards professional certifications by the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA). Yorkville is a Canadian national university that offers leading professional degree programs through an innovative online learning platform. Yorkville University’s programs offer adults the flexibility needed to complete a degree while balancing other commitments by providing a supportive, highly collaborative and interactive online learning community. Degree programs at Yorkville University are academically rigorous and highly regarded in professional practice. They provide training and credentials that allow graduates to advance professional careers and contribute to the betterment of society.

The programs covered under this Collaboration Agreement along with specific transfer credit details can be found on Yorkville University’s website. A collaborative effort such as this is another demonstration of Academy Canada’s commitment to assist students with achieving academic excellence.

Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences: Academy Canada is extremely pleased to have an Articulation Agreement with Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences (PCU-WHS). This agreement provides graduates of Academy Canada’s Occupational Health and Safety program with advanced standing with PCU-WHS. In particular, Academy Canada Occupational Health and Safety graduates will be granted 67.5 credits required for successful completion of PCU-WHS Bachelor of Disability Management degree program. The Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences is a non-profit, special-purpose university headquartered in Port Alberni, British Columbia. It is a statutory degree granting education and research institution for the special purpose of creating and disseminating new knowledge including applied research in the fields of return to work and disability management, workplace safety, health promotion, comprehensive rehabilitation and disability leadership studies. We are proud to acknowledge that this articulation agreement is a cornerstone that promotes and enhances student success. A collaborative effort such as this demonstrates institutional commitment to assist students with achieving academic excellence.

Douglas College: Academy Canada has signed a lease agreement that enables our graduates to apply for transfer of credit at Douglas College. This agreement will provide Academy Canada Therapeutic Recreation program graduates with the transfer of up to 60 credits and an opportunity to apply to Douglas College’s Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation degree program.

NL Construction Association: Academy Canada has a close working relationship with the Newfoundland & Labrador Construction Association (NLCA). The NLCA is an incorporated not-for-profit association for contractors, builders, and suppliers primarily engaged in Newfoundland and Labrador’s construction industry. Members are representatives of every construction industry disciplines, and also architectural and engineering firms. Since its founding in 1968, NLCA has been received recognition from government, architectural and engineering professions, and the general public as the construction industry’s provincial representative. James Loder, Academy Canada Consultant, has served on the NLCA Board since 2012 and held roles as Vice-Chair. Academy Canada has also partnered with the Association to deliver several professional training programs, including the Future Prospects Scholarship program and Gold Seal credentials.

NL Association of Career Colleges: The NLACC is a not-for-profit association that represents the interests of member college students, faculty, staff and partners on provincial matters. The Association works closely with government to develop educational policy, liaisons with student groups, responds to media requests, and represents the sector in community, business and social matters. Both AC President Michael Barrett and Director James Loder have served for several years on the NLACC Board of Directors (including as President) in order to ensure that the interests of our students are heard. The NLACC is the provincial arm of the National Association of Career Colleges

National Association of Career Colleges: The National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) is an advocacy group designed to represent independent or private career college students, faculty, staff, and managers across Canada. It originally began in Hamilton, Ontario in 1896 as the Business Educators Association. Over the next 118+ years it has grown and evolved with the goal of encouraging private training sector excellence, and promoting the interests of its members and their students at the national level. NACC has an elected Board of Directors from across Canada which oversees its management, and is responsible to the members. Academy Canada Director James Loder represented Newfoundland and Labrador for several years and actually served as President from 2012-14.

Provincial Apprenticeship & Certification Board (Government of NL): The Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board (PACB) was established in 1953 to assist Government in the development of policy under the Apprenticeship Act. The Board offers guidance on matters related to Plans of Training, accreditation, industry certification, programs and initiatives and the overall growth of the trades system. Academy Canada works closely with PACB in the delivery of its trades programs and through its accreditation program. Director James Loder was appointed by government to the Board every year from 2010 to 2017.
