Newfoundland and Labrador’s post secondary institutions, notably College of the North Atlantic, Memorial University, Keyin College, and Academy Canada, are teaming up with SpacesShared, an online platform that finds suitable housing for students while helping seniors to curb loneliness and earn some income at the same time.

Truly a win-win combination, helping to solve Canada’s housing crisis while providing companionship at the same time.

SpacesShared is an online platform that helps pair seniors who have empty rooms in their homes with a students.

This platform was recently launched in Newfoundland and Labrador.

According to SpacesShared’s CEO, Rylan Kinnon, the app uses an algorithm to match compatible students with older hosts interested in home sharing.

Kinnon said the operation is a win-win for the host and the student, as it solves Canada’s current housing problems while building a meaningful relationship.

For students wanting to save money on their rent, SpacesShared provides an incentive for students who help out their host.

Student participants can receive 5% off their rent per week for each hour he/she provides assistance to their host.

Participants can get up to a 25% discount on their weekly rent if he/she provides five hours or more of assistance to their host per week.
